Motivational Music Mondays

First Monday of May! Welcome!

Monday started off with a hard TRX workout, cup of Tim Horton’s coffee and a sun kiss on my cheeks. I asked others what motivated them over the weekend, the song “Call Me Maybe” has been on the boys minds all the time. I am not quite sure what is so appealing about this song. Do you?

On a different note, here was my song I turned up this morning on the way to the gym before TRX kicked my butt! So good , check it out

Cheers to a new week

WARNING: This Post Is a True Story About a Woman Who Accomplished Her Goal

Going Once; High-End Fashion Meets Riffington.com

In a neighborhood in Victoria, BC the waves crashed against the shore on the other side of the block. She made her daily walk past the Riffington house following her Great Dane, Hugo, as he lead the way to Uplands Park for their daily game of fetch.

Before taking Hugo out that day, she had been in the kitchen chopping peppers, watching as the time ticked down on an Internet auction. She was wondering why there wasn’t an auction type website specifically for designer purses.

Jessica Kerr had just started her MBA program at the University of Victoria, British Columbia and was inspired to connect her studies with her love of designer handbags. Kerr created Riffington.com named after the home on Beach Drive in Victoria BC where customers can bid for high-end products.  Penny auctions have made high-ticket items obtainable for almost everyone.

“Take Louis Vuitton for example, it never goes on sale,” Kerr said. “There is no such thing as paying $100 for an $800 bag.”

Riffington.com made the seemingly impossible idea of having her own web-based business reachable. The website never would have happened if Kerr had not been enrolled in the MBA program.

Kerr knows what it is like to go to mall and never see a sale sign at Louis Vuitton. Walking through the mall to find the perfect handbag isn’t always easy when you flip over the price tag to find a number that could buy a plane ticket to a tropical island.

Riffington has opened the designer world so Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton are available to everyone for up to 90 per-cent off.

A confident smile flourishes Kerr’s face as she watches one of the auctions on Riffington come to an end. Kerr keeps tabs on the site to ensure no glitches appear during a live auction. It is part of her work to secure Riffington as a fully established business.

Some of Kerr’s customers have made auctions on the website their full-time job. These hyperactive bidders are so aggressive that it can drive the average consumer out of the auction process. That makes it hard for Riffington to stick to its original intent, which was to provide everyone a chance to purchase high-end items at a discounted price.

“I wanted to create a place for everyone to have a chance to buy high-end products for a discounted price,” said Kerr in an annoyed tone.

The original mission was to give everyone a chance to bid and receive high-end items for a discounted price. Kerr has included some beginner auctions that only allow new clients to bid on the product listed.

Her idea has been popular because in the down economy, as the unemployment rate in Canada is at 7.6 per-cent people are always looking for a bargain. The tight spending budget for people today does not include much room for high-end items.

Riffington provides people with limited options, a chance to continue their love affair for high-end products.

My LAST move

Writing your vision out can be inspirational and move you closer to your dreams. If YOU can picture your dreams, then what is stopping YOU from making them happen?

If I had only one more place I could move, this would be it…

My hands fall and hit a ruff surface, it’s my surf board. Awake in bed, I hear the waves crashing and the birds chirping. I get dressed and open my front door. A new set of waves are crashing into the shoreline across the street. A game of beach volleyball has already started. My husband puts on a cup of coffee asking if we have time for a quick surf before yoga this morning. Rubbing my eyes, I pick up the newspaper. It says Laguna Beach, 85F and sunny all day.

Where would you move to? What is your vision?

A new country, a new soundtrack and a new breath of fresh air

Recently, I have been thinking extremely hard about what is next. What is my next adventure, in this blissful life I live? I constantly edit my goals as I grow and change. I help coach my friends and my teammates around goal setting and their vision. Constantly, I am reading up on new articles around goal setting, conversations to have, stepping-stones, well being, and yet I feel the research can never be completed.

I have witnessed a few people recently in droughts, situations that have nothing left to offer them. When you dig to the bottom of a hole, once all the juice, the core and the gut is removed, you are left with an empty hole. It is like going down the wrong path. You keep walking further thinking you might find a new side street to turn off on, but you keep walking, and the road just seems like it is going no where. I sit there and watch some of these people in these droughts, and then look at my goals and see if at the end of the day I will be left with an empty hole too.

Then I realized, if there is passion, excitement, openness, communication, warm sand under my feet and in between my toes, I am right where I want to be. WANT, is the key ingredient. You need to WANT something so badly, that you are willing to put yourself out there and see if it sticks. If it does not work out, then you need to have the courage to accept that, and face your fears with a new adventure.

I have been contemplating a new country, a new soundtrack, and a new breath of fresh air to inhale. Where to take the next deep breath is where my focus has been. Where will you?

I AM- and so it begins

About 6 years ago, I remember my twin sister and I going to babysit for a couple. The couple lived in the same neighborhood as my family and had a newborn baby. That night we were cleaning up around the house and I had noticed a piece a paper with a long list, under a magnet on the fridge. The list said, “make a million dollars next year, fly a plane this year, and go to Hawaii with my whole family at Christmas.”  I remember showing this to my sister and asking why anyone would write these down and put it on their fridge for everyone to see?”

Today I get it! If we make our goals visible, we are accountable for them. Anyone can write goals down, but letting yourself be authentic with the goals allows you to fulfill them. I am running the SeaWheeze half marathon in August 2012. That statement is an example of putting my goals into action, I made an I AM statement. Many of our goals are written in I WILL do this format, however, if you already believe you are going to do something then why not put the goals in I AM form. If you write them in I AM form, you are more likely to accomplish your goals.

If you have a hard time coming up with your goals for this year, why not congratulate yourself on accomplishing goals from last year. Write a list like “I set a personal best at a 10k race in 2011 and I graduated university in 2011,” that why you are celebrating your past accomplishments that may spark some new ideas for the future. The word future may be a hard word to conceptualize for a few people, which is fine. Set goals for yourself for the next week, month, year, five years, and 10 years. I have provided a link to a PDF file that I have used over the past 3 years to develop my goals and vision. Check it out. vision and goals worksheet
